In the face of global challenges, a rethinking process was initialized and innovative strategies developed towards a sustainable, environmentally friendly bioeconomic. Extremophiles and their enzymes have been identified as a greener alternative to many traditional industrial processes. One of the most significant obstacles is a current lack of ability to produce most extremophiles/extremozymes.
Culture Collection of Extremophiles is a non-profit initiative of the Department of Microbiology at the Faculty of Sciences of Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice (Slovakia) with the aim of preserving unique extremophilic bacteria and creating opportunities for research collaboration.
The establishment of the collection was supported by the grant VVGS-2019-1298 (Internal university grant system; Pavol Jozef Safarik University in Kosice, Slovakia) and is closely related to research activities of our Department.
